Good reviews and packed theaters are obviously two desired goal every big screen title aims for when it comes to the surface, and it appears that true-life crime saga "American Gangster" has achieved them both to secure the No. 1 spot on the weekend box office running November 2-4, 2007.

Surpassing the expectations of its distributor, the Universal Pictures release successfully sold $43.6 million worth of tickets during its three-day debut, a remarkable number its fellow newcomer and closest competitor "Bee Movie" failed to beat. Despite the heavy marketing, the family cartoon sadly fared less with $38 million, but it was powerful enough to push last-week champ "Saw IV" to number three as the horror pic scored way lower at $10.3 million.

Rom-com flick "Dan in Real Life" came up behind after managing to pull $7.87 million, followed by former top holder "The Game Plan" which gathered another $3.93 million to round out the big five of the chart. On the sixth rank, there was vampire tale "30 Days of Night"that still did fairly well with $ 3.74 million.

Another new release "Martian Child" landed on the next position for its decent effort to collect $3.38 million into its pocket with Tony Gilroy-directed "Michael Clayton" trailing at $2.79 million. Making up the top ten of the list were Lionsgate comedy "Why Did I Get Married?" and mystery drama "Gone Baby Gone", the former garnering $2.6 million while the latter taking a slightly lower income of $2.24 million.
