In the grimy underbelly of 19th century Edinburgh, two down-on-their-luck Irish immigrants, Simon Pegg as William Burke and Andy Serkis as William Hare, stumble upon a macabre business opportunity. With the city's medical schools, led by the competitive Dr. Knox (Tom Wilkinson), desperately in need of fresh cadavers for anatomical study, the pair discover a lucrative, if grisly, new trade. Their scheme to supply the doctors quickly escalates from opportunistic grave-robbing to something far more sinister, all while Burke becomes romantically entangled with a spirited aspiring actress, Ginny (Isla Fisher), who dreams of staging the first all-female production of Macbeth. Directed by horror-comedy legend John Landis, this darkly humorous thriller weaves a tale of ambition, greed, and entrepreneurial spirit gone horrifically awry, as the two entrepreneurs find their fortunes rising alongside a mounting body count and the increasing suspicion of local lawmen and rival resurrection men.
