In the sun-drenched, rum-soaked paradise of the Florida Keys, Matthew McConaughey embodies Moondog, a charismatic and perpetually stoned poet who lives life entirely on his own hedonistic terms. This freewheeling comedy-drama from writer-director Harmony Korine follows the blissfully rebellious Moondog as he navigates a life of beachside parties, spontaneous adventures, and his own unique creative process, much to the chagrin of his more conventional wife, Minnie, played by Isla Fisher. His journey becomes a series of chaotic and colorful encounters with a cast of eccentric characters, including his loyal friend Lingerie, portrayed by Snoop Dogg, and the unpredictable rehab escapee Flicker, brought to life by Zac Efron. As Moondog’s refusal to conform collides with the expectations and tragedies of the real world, the film paints a vibrant, R-rated portrait of a man chasing eternal summer, questioning whether his philosophy of absolute freedom is profound genius or sheer madness.
