Wonder Girls was a South Korean girl group formed by JYP Entertainment, known for their significant impact on the K-pop scene and their pioneering efforts in breaking into the American music market. The group debuted in February 2007 with the single "Irony," featuring five members: Yeeun, Sunye, Sunmi, Hyuna, and Sohee. Their early sound combined catchy pop melodies with a vibrant energy that quickly resonated with audiences, setting the stage for their future successes.

Following Hyuna's departure from the group in July 2007, Yubin was recruited to join the lineup just before the release of their debut studio album, The Wonder Years (2007). The album included the hit single "Tell Me," which topped numerous South Korean music charts and established Wonder Girls as a formidable presence in the music industry. Their momentum continued with subsequent hits such as "So Hot" and "Nobody," the latter of which was released in 2008 and gained international attention. When "Nobody" was released in the United States in 2009, it charted at No. 76 on the Billboard Hot 100, making Wonder Girls the first South Korean act to enter the chart. This achievement marked a significant milestone in the group's career and solidified their status as cultural ambassadors for K-pop.

In 2010, Wonder Girls began their foray into the American market, serving as the opening act for the Jonas Brothers' World Tour, where they performed English versions of their songs. However, the group experienced changes in its lineup when Sunmi left in early 2010 to pursue her education, leading to the introduction of Hyerim. That year, they released the international single "2 Different Tears," further expanding their global reach. Their second studio album, Wonder World (2011), included the popular track "Be My Baby," which showcased their evolving sound and artistic maturity.

The group ventured into acting in 2012 with a role in the TeenNick movie The Wonder Girls, and they continued to release music, including singles like "Like This" and "Like Money," before entering a three-year hiatus. In 2015, it was announced that members Sunye and Sohee would depart the group, while Sunmi returned to promote with the remaining members, who adapted a band-oriented concept for their third and final studio album, Reboot (2015). This album produced the hit single "Why So Lonely," which received accolades and reinforced their status as influential figures in the K-pop genre.

Known as "South Korea's Retro Queens," Wonder Girls' music drew inspiration from the sounds of the 1960s through the 1980s, earning them a distinctive place in the K-pop landscape. In 2017, they were ranked third on Billboard's "Top 10 K-pop Girl Groups of the Past Decade" list, a testament to their enduring legacy. After unsuccessful negotiations for contract renewals with some members, the group officially disbanded on January 26, 2017. They celebrated their decade-long journey by releasing their final single "Draw Me" on February 10, 2017, marking the end of an era for a group that had left an indelible mark on the music industry.
