Emerging from Oxford, England, Glass Animals carved a unique path in modern music with their psychedelic pop sound and intricate storytelling, eventually achieving global recognition with one of the decade's defining hits. The band, formed in 2010, consists of Dave Bayley (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards, drums, and primary songwriter), Drew MacFarlane (guitar, keyboards, backing vocals), Edmund Irwin-Singer (bass, keyboards, backing vocals), and Joe Seaward (drums). Their journey began as university friends experimenting with music in a makeshift studio, developing a lush, tropical-tinged aesthetic that would become their signature.

Their debut album, "Zaba," released in 2014, introduced the world to their hypnotic style. The single "Gooey" became a slow-burn success, eventually earning a platinum certification in the United States and establishing a dedicated fanbase. The band's creative evolution was fully realized with their 2016 sophomore effort, "How to Be a Human Being." A concept album populated with vivid character sketches, it was met with widespread critical acclaim. The record's success was cemented with two major wins at the 2018 MPG Awards for UK Album of the Year and Self Producing Artist of the Year, alongside a prestigious nomination for the Mercury Prize.

The band faced a significant challenge in 2018 when drummer Joe Seaward was seriously injured in a cycling accident, putting their future on hold. His recovery became the emotional core of their third studio album, 2020's "Dreamland." This deeply personal record, which peaked at number two on the UK Albums Chart and number seven on the US Billboard 200, marked a shift towards more introspective songwriting and samples from the pop culture of Bayley's youth. From this album came "Heat Waves," a song about loss and nostalgia that slowly built into a global phenomenon. Gaining massive traction on TikTok, it topped the Triple J Hottest 100 of 2020, reached number one in Australia, and eventually soared to the summit of the US Billboard Hot 100 while hitting number five in the UK. By late 2022, the track had surpassed two billion streams on Spotify.

This monumental success led to major industry recognition. At the 2022 Brit Awards, Glass Animals were nominated for Best British Alternative/Rock Act and "Heat Waves" was nominated for Best British Single. They also received their first Grammy nomination in the prestigious Best New Artist category at the 2022 Grammy Awards. The band continues to tour extensively, captivating audiences with their dynamic live performances that translate their detailed studio productions into powerful communal experiences, solidifying their status as one of the most inventive and resilient groups in contemporary alternative music.
