Candace Amber Owens Farmer, known professionally as Candace Owens, is an American author, talk show host, and political commentator who gained prominence for her conservative activism and outspoken criticism of liberal movements and institutions. Her journey from a self-described liberal to a prominent voice on the right, particularly as a young Black woman, made her a controversial and influential figure in modern political media.

Born on April 29, 1989, in Stamford, Connecticut, Owens was raised by her grandparents. She attended the University of Rhode Island but did not graduate. Her early professional life included work in the private sector. Owens initially held liberal political views and was critical of the Republican Party. She even started a website called Degree180 that was critical of Donald Trump during his 2016 presidential campaign. However, her political perspective underwent a significant and public transformation.

Owens's rise to national attention began around 2017 when she started speaking at college campuses and through online videos, articulating conservative viewpoints on race, politics, and society. She became known for her sharp criticism of the Black Lives Matter movement and the Democratic Party, arguing that they did not represent the best interests of Black Americans. This led to her appointment as communications director for the conservative student group Turning Point USA, a role she held from 2017 to 2019. In 2018, she co-founded the BLEXIT Foundation, an organization encouraging Black Americans to leave the Democratic Party.

Her media career expanded significantly with the launch of her own online talk show. After a stint creating content for PragerU, Owens joined the conservative media company The Daily Wire in 2021 to host "Candace," a political talk show. She also authored the book "Blackout: How Black America Can Make Its Second Escape from the Democratic Plantation." Throughout her career, Owens expressed skepticism about COVID-19 lockdowns and vaccines, questioned the pervasive impact of white supremacy, and was a vocal critic of Israel's actions during the Gaza war.

Her tenure at The Daily Wire ended in March 2024 following her dismissal, which came after a series of public comments regarding Israel and conspiracy theories that were widely condemned as antisemitic, culminating in months of reported tensions with her co-host Ben Shapiro and other staff. Owens remains an active and polarizing commentator, continuing to express her views through various independent platforms and public appearances, consistently challenging mainstream political narratives from her position on the far-right. She has been married to British businessman and political activist George Farmer since August 31, 2019.
