Busted emerged as one of the defining British pop rock bands of the early 2000s, capturing the zeitgeist with their infectious, punk-infused anthems about teenage life and high school angst. Formed in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England, in 2000, the original trio consisted of Charlie Simpson on guitar and vocals, James Bourne on guitar and vocals, and Matt Willis on bass and vocals. Their energetic sound and relatable lyrics quickly garnered a dedicated fanbase, propelling them to national fame and establishing them as leaders of the burgeoning pop-punk movement in the UK.

The band's breakthrough arrived in 2002 with their debut single, "What I Go to School For," a cheeky, guitar-driven track that humorously detailed a crush on a teacher. The song became an instant hit, peaking at number three on the UK Singles Chart and setting the stage for their self-titled debut album, Busted, released in 2002. The album was a commercial success, spawning further top-ten hits like "Year 3000" and "You Said No," and eventually achieving quadruple platinum status in the UK. Their follow-up, 2004's A Present for Everyone, continued their chart dominance, featuring the number-one singles "Crashed the Wedding" and "Who's David," and solidifying their status as teen idols.

At the height of their popularity, Busted achieved significant milestones, including winning two BRIT Awards for Best British Breakthrough Act and Best Pop Act in 2004. Their music also crossed into television, with "What I Go to School For" featured in an episode of the popular series The O.C.. However, in a shocking move that dismayed fans, Charlie Simpson announced his departure in January 2005 to focus on his post-hardcore band Fightstar. This led to the immediate dissolution of Busted, and they played their final concert that same month. The members pursued solo projects, with Matt Willis winning the third series of I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! and James Bourne forming the band Son of Dork.

After years of speculation, the original trio stunned the music world by announcing a reunion in 2015. This culminated in the release of a brand new studio album, Night Driver, in 2016, which showcased a more mature, synth-pop oriented sound. The reunion proved enduring, and Busted continues to perform, releasing new music including the 2019 album Half Way There, a return to their classic pop-punk style. They maintain an active touring schedule, demonstrating that their appeal has lasted well beyond their initial teenage fanbase, cementing their legacy as a beloved act in British pop culture.
