Ally Sheedy, born Alexandra Elizabeth Sheedy on June 13, 1962, in New York City, is an acclaimed American actress, author, and teacher who rose to fame as a defining member of the "Brat Pack" in the 1980s. She began her career as a child, appearing in commercials and guest roles on television, and published her first book, the best-selling historical fiction novel "She Was Nice to Mice," at the age of twelve in 1975. Sheedy made her theatrical film debut in Bad Boys (1983) alongside Sean Penn, but it was her role as a brilliant young hacker in the science fiction thriller WarGames (1983) that brought her widespread recognition, earning her the first of three Saturn Award nominations for Best Actress.

Sheedy solidified her status as a teen icon through a string of popular films that defined a generation. She starred in The Breakfast Club (1985) as the eccentric and socially isolated Allison Reynolds, and in St. Elmo's Fire (1985) as the insecure aspiring writer Leslie Hunter. These performances, along with her roles in Oxford Blues (1984), Blue City (1986), and the hit family comedy Short Circuit (1986), cemented her place alongside co-stars like Emilio Estevez, Molly Ringwald, Rob Lowe, and Demi Moore as a key figure of the Brat Pack. She also appeared in the dramatic ensemble Twice in a Lifetime (1985) and later received additional Saturn Award nominations for her lead roles in the thriller Fear (1990) and the horror film Man's Best Friend (1993).

Following a career downturn in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Sheedy experienced a remarkable critical resurgence. She won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead for her powerful performance as a drug-addicted lesbian photographer in the romantic drama High Art (1998), a role that showcased her dramatic range and revitalized her career. She continued to work steadily in independent films and television, appearing in projects such as Betsy's Wedding (1990) and Only the Lonely (1991). More recently, she had a main role in the comedy television series Single Drunk Female from 2022 to 2023.

Beyond acting, Sheedy has pursued a multifaceted career as a writer and educator. She has worked as a literary editor and authored several books, including the children's novel "She Was Nice to Mice." Since 2021, she has taught acting and screenwriting at the City College of New York, passing on her extensive industry knowledge to a new generation of artists. Ally Sheedy remains a respected and influential figure in American cinema, celebrated for her iconic teen roles, her award-winning independent film work, and her enduring contributions to the arts.
