AJR Biography

news-detailsAJR is an American pop band comprised of the three Met brothers—Adam, Jack, and Ryan—who carved a unique path in the music industry by writing, producing, and recording their genre-blending music independently from their living room. Known for their intricate, sample-heavy productions and anthemic choruses, the trio achieved mainstream success with a string of platinum-certified singles, including "Weak" and "Bang!," establishing themselves as a formidable force in modern pop with a dedicated fanbase.

The brothers, born in Manhattan, New York City, began their musical journey in 2005, busking with covers and tap dancing on the streets of New York to hone their performance skills. This DIY ethos carried into their songwriting and production, as they built a home studio and learned to engineer their own records. Their independent debut album, "Living Room," released in 2015, contained their breakout single "I'm Ready," which sampled a famous line from Spongebob Squarepants and was certified platinum, proving their unconventional methods could yield major hits.

Their follow-up, the 2017 electropop album "The Click," propelled them to new heights, going platinum and spawning the Alternative Airplay number-one hit "Sober Up," a collaboration with Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo. This period solidified their reputation for crafting emotionally resonant yet wildly inventive pop. The momentum continued with their first US Billboard 200 top-ten album, "Neotheater" in 2019, and its successor, 2021's "OK Orchestra," which also landed in the top ten. "OK Orchestra" featured "Bang!," their first top-ten entry on the Billboard Hot 100, which later won the Top Rock Song award at the Billboard Music Awards.

AJR's success is underscored by an impressive tally of eight platinum singles in the United States, including "Burn the House Down," "100 Bad Days," "Way Less Sad," and "World's Smallest Violin," accounting for millions in certified sales. They have completed multiple headlining tours, with Billboard ranking them among the top 100 touring artists of 2024. The band released their fifth studio album, "The Maybe Man," in 2023, supporting it with another extensive tour. AJR continues to operate from their New York apartment studio, maintaining full creative control over their ever-evolving orchestral pop sound, which consistently challenges the conventions of the genre.
