Carrie and the team investigate the death of a research assistant killed in an explosion at a research laboratory. The laboratory conducted research for a variety of clients, including a few military contractors, which immediately makes the bombing look like an act of terrorism. Carrie remembers seeing boxes labeled with SPI, the name of a defense contractor that used the lab, and she and Al go to investigate. They learn that SPI had received a wave of threats from an eco-activist group, and that the activist group had received detailed plans for five separate bombings in New York City from a man named Faraday. Tanya traces his IP address to a shared office space and the team goes to investigate. The landlord, Max, has very little information on Faraday, given that he keeps to himself. Once inside Faraday's office, Carrie and Roe discover bomb-making materials and a huge collage of newspaper clippings, photos, and notes arranged in an indiscernible pattern. More...Roe accidentally trips a trap and the wall goes up in flames, but not before Carrie gets a good look at it and commits most of it to memory. Using that memory and another piece of video evidence, Carrie is able to determine that the bomber is actually Max, and that Faraday is actually a mental projection brought on by Max's undiagnosed paranoid schizophrenia. Carrie and Al figure out where Max's next target is, track him down, arrest him, and disarm the bomb before it goes off. Meanwhile, Al gets a box delivered to the office with a variety of personal affects, but he denies its his. Later, Carrie corners him and gets him to admit that he and Elaine broke up, largely because Elaine felt he was still in love with Carrie.
