Justin struggles with his long-distance relationship with Nicki and tries spicing things up by initiating phone sex, only his lack of experience makes it awkward and unfulfilling. Leslie and Sabrina come to Justin's aid and demonstrate that it's not what you say but how you say it. After their expert coaching, Justin gives Nicki a call... and ends up leaving a phone sex message on her voice mail. Better than nothing, right?
A gay electrician tends to a light fixture at the bar and captures Brett's attention. Danny notices and urges him to ask the electrician out - advice with which Justin thoroughly disagrees. As Brett's best friend, Justin knows him better than anyone and he believes Brett still needs some time before he asks a guy out. But when Danny convinces Brett and they start consulting, Justin grows jealous and frustrated, certain that trusting Danny's instincts over his will not end well for Brett. He demands Brett choose between him and Danny as his wingman - and, much to Justin's chagrin, Brett chooses Danny.
Justin mopes about losing another competition with Danny until he and the gang witness Brett finally makes his move on the electrician... and receive a total rejection. Crushed, Brett slinks away in shame while Justin holds back a twinge of vindictiveness, secretly happy to see Danny's plan fail. Back at the apartment, Danny calls him out on it and Brett (hiding in the kitchen while eating chips) overhears, pushing him further into depression. Justin later apologizes to his friend and confesses that ever since Danny arrived he's felt less useful to his friends; he only wants to help. Burski, Shelly and Brett all chime in to express their gratitude for Justin and even Danny expresses his thanks, stating that he and Justin share leadership of the group.
