When Mitch, Tracy and Sadie run into Russell and Angie on their way to church, it gets Sadie asking about church and God. Being a mixed-faith couple, Mitch and Tracy were waiting to bring up the subject until Sadie was older, but the death of her favorite chicken at school only makes Sadie more inquisitive.
Watching Sadie deal with her first loss also reminds Tracy of losing her grandfather at a young age. Fortuitously, Mitch's sister Sam (Guest star Ashley Tisdale) comes to visit and brings her psychic boyfriend, Josh, with her. While Mitch prefers science to spirituality, he sees how Tracy's session with Josh brings her closure and ultimately agrees that there is a role for religion to play in their family. Sadie's prayers are also answered when her favorite chicken is miraculously resurrected at school the next day, thanks to a little help from Uncle Russell.
