Jim and Pam have returned from their honeymoon in Puerto Rico to realize nothing around the office has changed. Except for the fact that Dwight has brought Jim a mallard as a congratulations present for his promotion. Jim is not aware that Dwight has planted a listening device in the gift, hoping to catch Jim doing something to get him in trouble.

Michael gets some alone time with Jim to tell him about his new lover. Jim acts interested, but turns angry when Michael confesses it's Pam's mom. Jim demands Michael end his relationship with her.

Pam and Jim give Michael his bottle of rum and Pam overhears Michael cancel dinner reservations. A curious Pam now wants to know more about Michael's love life and he hints that he's involved with a co-worker's mother. When Pam finds out the truth, she runs away screaming.

Michael summons everybody to the conference room to talk about volunteer work. Pam interrupts Michael and calls for no more meetings. After Pam's outbursts, Michael receives a call from Pam's mom, crying. Michael then orders Pam to apologize to her mother, as the rest of the office finds out who Michael's new lover is.

Jim discovers Dwight's spying device in the mallard and immediately gets rid of it. Dwight finds out that Kelly now owns the mallard and she's not willing to give it up so easily. Ryan steps in and sells the mallard back to Dwight for ten dollars.

Michael does his best to get Pam to understand his and her mother's relationship. He tells Pam that he's not breaking up with her mother, no matter how much Pam disapproves, in fact, he'll just love her mom "harder." Pam flips out even more when she learns that Jim knew about the relationship before she did.

Dwight finds out that Jim knows about his spying. Dwight admits his espionage all stems from being jealous of Jim's promotion. He offers to do anything for Jim to avoid being punished. Later on, Jim has Dwight wash Pam's car in an attempt to improve her day.
