A fire alarm went off inside Dunder-Mifflin and Dwight took it upon himself to evacuate the building. Others weren't taking it as seriously, except for Michael, who pushed everybody out of the way to be the first one out of the building.
They were all forced to stay in the parking lot until the fire marshals cleared the building. Jim thought it would be a great idea to play "Desert Island," "Would you Rather" and "Who Would You Do?"
Michael was trying to take Ryan under his wing and Dwight was getting slightly jealous. Michael was challenging Ryan to quiz him about things he learned in business school. This made Ryan uncomfortable, especially when Dwight came along and started harassing him. Michael told Dwight that he could learn a thing or two from Ryan.
After being humiliated by Michael, Dwight went to his car and blasted REM's "Everybody Hurts." Pam and Jim tried to coax Dwight out of his depression. Pam encouraged him to talk it out with Ryan and Michael. Jim told Dwight he should quit, but Dwight said that would mean Ryan won the battle.
Michael realized he'd forgotten his cell phone and Dwight ran into the smoke-filled building to grab it. It wasn't until after Dwight was inside the flaming building that Michael realized he'd had the phone with him all along. Dwight came back and said he'd found the source of the smoke. Ryan had left his lunch in the oven too long.
Jim's girlfriend, Katie, showed up to meet him for lunch. She said she had answers for Jim's Desert Island game. When she said Legally Blonde would be the movie she would bring, Pam laughed. Jim had earlier made fun of Pam just for thinking about bringing that movie. Jim abruptly quit playing the game and went to lunch with Katie.
