Dustin McEvers is a criminal who has lots of robberies on his record. He was shot and killed during what looks to be a home invasion by the owner of the house. Miles Balfour claims it was a matter of self-defense. He's married to dance school owner Sophia Balfour (guest star Jennifer Beals), who is the one who really killed Dustin McEvers. The question is... Why?
Angie admits to Vega that she had a thing with new boss Cross awhile back. Things didn't end well. This much is obvious. The bumpiness of the past has caught up to the present as Cross makes it known in front of everyone that he is Angie's superior officer. In other news, Officer Wendy Sung is an eager young cop who enthusiastically assists with the murder investigation. Vega remembers the days when he was a wide-eyed rookie.
Chris Renway had several arrests with Dustin in the past. The two of them had a baby together. This didn't stop Dustin from flirting with other ladies. He was having secret meetings with Sophia Balfour behind her husband's back. She kept telling him that this had to stop. Dustin let her know that he may not want that to be the case.
Miles followed Sophia one day after she left the dance studio. He saw her going into Dustin's house. In the present day, Ryan Balfour is angry and upset to find out that his own father shot his friend, Dustin. In truth, it was Sophia. Angie deduces that she is the common link between the victim and Miles. A GPS tracker places her going to Dustin's place. Sophia claims she was in the area to meet her son for a walk.
Lucas learns that both Dustin and Sophia had been calling the same contact. Ryan Balfour had been staying at the victim's place. He was hooked on drugs. This came courtesy of his dealer, Dustin. Sophia shot him when he showed up at their home. She had been practicing at a gun range. She had been paying Dustin to leave Ryan alone. When he wouldn't, she had to take other action. It was Dustin's life or her son's. Case closed.
