Following a case where Jane's cavalier involvement leads to a shootout between the killer and police, Bertram banishes the team to the desert and tasks them with solving the murder of a man whose body has been found two years after his death. Now that Lisbon and Jane know that Red John is aware of their list, though, they are spooked by the assignment. After all, Bertram could be Red John and he might be using this as an excuse to get them out of town for a while. While Jane rolls with the punches, Lisbon decides to share Jane's list with Van Pelt - a decision that Jane is vehemently opposed to. While Lisbon and Van Pelt set up tracking devices on each of the Red John suspects, the rest of the team round up suspects while Jane finds himself drawn to a small diner in the desert.
