Channel 84 weathergal Nancy Gribble predicts sunny skies for the weekend, which is perfect considering that the 93 rd Annual Heimlich County Pork Festival is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. When dark skies and a thunderstorm cancel the festivities, the Channel 84 Station Manager, Tom Chick, tells Nancy that they're finally upgrading to Doppler radar, a National Weather Service link and graphic computers. A step up from their previous system of nothing. But the bad news for Nancy is, they're also hiring Irv Bennett, a young man fresh from Texas Tech's meteorlogical school, to do the weather from now on. Nancy tries to undermine Irv by looking for skeletons in his closet, or making fun of his big nose. But he just makes fun of his nose on the air, garnering laughs. When wildfires break out, Peggy convinces Nancy to cover them live. Peggy, Dale and Nancy steal a Channel 84 newsvan and head out to the fires. On the scene, Dale decides to drive right into the heart of the fire and Nancy begins to give a remote surrounded by burning trees. Back at Channel 84, Tom Chick notices and puts Nancy live on the air. Eventually, the fire department airlifts Dale, Nancy and Peggy out of the fire using horse harnesses. Tom Chick, thrilled by the publicity and response from viewers, promotes Nancy to co-anchor.
