Even though Oxford-educated Wall-Streeter Phillip Ashmore voluntarily turns over his colleague, Arnie Franklin, to the FBI for running a Ponzi scheme and bilking millions from their company's clients, Phillip's guilt is far from assuaged. Once he and his wife Camille are safely in the witness protection program, Phillip insists on liquidating all of his assets-including the sizable inheritance from his parents who died in a ferry accident-to pay restitutions to all of the firms' clients.

But when Phillip suddenly changes his tune and asks Mary to get him back $5 million dollars as soon as possible, Mary and Marshall become suspicious. Eventually Phillip admits that his wife has been kidnapped and the money is for her ransom. As they search for the identity of the kidnapper, they stumble upon an even bigger surprise about Phillip's storied past.

Normally, holing up in a motel room overnight to wait for a kidnapper's call would be much more fun for Mary and Marshall. However, Marshall is too busy being angry at Mary for telling Raphael that she works for WITSEC and doesn't want to try to understand why she did it. Has she put herself-and by extension Marshall-in danger by telling Raph the true nature of her job? Or has she shown that she is much more ready for this commitment than either she or Marshall thought?
