Rochelle's father, Gene, comes to visit dies while eating pork chops. While the family grieves it seems that Rochelle is numb to the whole thing. She's not her usual bossy self and allows the kids to stay home from school and do whatever they want, she just walks around in a daze eating turtles. Rochelle's family comes to stay with them while they plan the funeral. Aunt Charlotte (aka Grievy), Michael, Aunt Mousy and Maxine. Chris is shocked to see his mother kowtow to Maxine, her overbearing and obnoxious mother. Chris decides to pick where his mother left off and starts taking control of the house, including telling Maxine off when she gets out of line. Julius informs Chris that although his intentions were good, he needs to stay out of this one. After the funeral, Rochelle discovers that somebody has eaten all her turtles and this finally prompts her to tell the family off. Finally the family leaves and Maxine gives Rochelle a compliment on the flowers at the services, which for her is the equivalent of saying -you did good, baby. That night Rochelle thanks Chris for taking up for her, then she yells at Chris for leaving his yo-yo out. Chris smiles because he knows all is back to normal.
