Dropping their daughters, Stella (Mia Serafino) and Shea (Miranda Cosgrove), off at college is the hardest thing Mike (Patrick Warburton) and Martina (Carrie Preston) have ever done, but after four years of being home alone, they've come to love being empty nesters. And now, Mike's dad and stepmom, Bob (Stacy Keach) and Alice (Carlease Burke), are moving to Florida, leaving them completely alone. Or so they thought. Stella and Shea turn up unexpectedly one day and announce they're moving back in. After hearing the news, Bob and Alice decide not to move to Florida, too. And just like that, Mike and Martina's peace and quiet is shattered.
Spending more time with the girls is great, but their constant presence takes a toll on Mike and Martina's relationship. They sneak away to a hotel one night, but even then, the girls are constantly on Martina's mind - and her cell phone. It dawns on her and Mike that fun time is over as long as Stella, Shea, Bob and Alice are around. So, at Bob and Alice's anniversary party, Mike gives a speech that hints the girls need to move out and that Bob and Alice should still move to Florida. Stella and Shea are hurt by the revelation, which makes Mike and Martina waver. When Bob calls out Mike on being too soft, it cements his decision to let them stay; he doesn't want to be the kind of dad that Bob was to him.
Bob later finds Mike and admits he sees how much Stella and Shea like him, proof positive of his good parenting. His concession even leads to a moment of father-son bonding. But Mike's happiness quickly comes to an end when he returns upstairs for some sexy time with Martina and finds Stella and Shea in bed with her. Fun time truly is over.
