Laurie is thinking she may want to buy a condo. Andy informs her that her financial situation isn't the best. She spends a lot of money on tuna melts and breath mints. According to Laurie, it's a vicious cycle. She needs a co-signer to get a home loan. But Jules doesn't want to do it because she'll feel like Laurie's mom, watching every cent she spends.

Speaking of Laurie's mom, she's in town. Her name is Sheila (guest star Beverly D'Angelo) and she can't co-sign either, as her job of "pretending that people back their cars into her" isn't going great. Laurie ditches her dream of buying a condo to help her mom get back on her feet. Jules is against this, but Laurie makes her promise not to interfere.

When Jules catches Sheila recklessly spending Laurie's money, she confronts her. Yeah, she promised Laurie she wouldn't interfere, but we all knew that wasn't going to happen. Sheila knows how to push Laurie's buttons to get what she wants. This drives Jules to call her a horrible mom. Unfortunately, she does this right when Laurie arrives. Sheila slips Jules a victorious smirk as she leads Laurie away from her friend.

After Bobby wins $200 in his basketball pool, Grayson claims the money as his own to pay off Bobby's massive bar tab. But neither guy is going to get the loot once Bobby is mugged in an alley by a tough lady with a nasty left hook. Ellie is having a good time with the fact that he was rolled by a woman. But Bobby's not embarrassed. In fact, he's not even missing the money since Grayson claimed it was his. Ellie says, "I love hillbilly logic."

Grayson stops by to see if Bobby has anything of value on his boat to cover that tab. While taking part in rousing game of Penny Can, he tells Bobby that the mugger has his wallet, so she knows where he lives. Bobby has it covered. To scare off intruders, he bought a barking dog CD. Unfortunately, it's a Christmas CD featuring a chorus of canines barking out "Jingle Bells."

When Bobby hears a noise one night, he's forced to head outside to investigate. In the shadows of the fog-filled parking lot where Bobby's boat resides, a little girl in a tiara springs forth demanding all his money. It was all a set-up by Ellie to prove that Bobby could be embarrassed. Mission accomplished.

Barb is having some work done on her face. Unfortunately, the procedure goes awry and she's forced to live in the shadows of her home. She hires Travis as her errand boy to fetch her things, all the while hiding her face from his young, innocent eyes. Trav thinks it's all a little weird, but a buck's a buck.

Travis sees why Barb has been lurking in the darkness. Her most recent chemical peel has left her face very, very red. We're talking fire truck red! Travis averts his eyes at first, but hangs in there to see her through this tough time. But he draws the line when Barb calls for a favor. He says, "I'm sorry, Barb, I don't know what spanks are, but I know I don't want to help you put yours on." Probably a wise decision.

When Laurie arrives in work, she's shocked to see that Jules is very supportive of her. Laurie realizes that this is all part of Jules's plan to get her to stand up to her mom on her own. But Sheila is scary. She knows the exact place to punch a person to make them throw up. Why do we mention this? Well...

Sheila sees Jules and Laurie sharing a hug in the office. She's about to hurl a rock through the window when Bobby and Ellie arrive. Bobby grabs Sheila's arm before she can heave the rock. Sheila then punches Bobby forcing him to heave his lunch. Wow, that vomit punch really works!

Ellie steps in to get Bobby's back. When Laurie sees what's happening, she tells Sheila that Jules is her family. So, Sheila bolts. A bit later, Bobby gets Ellie to admit that they're friends again. This has Andy dancing down the halls. Laurie's having a good day, too. Jules has just given her the closing papers on her condo. She co-signed her loan. Makes sense. After all, she's family.
