A 14-year-old runaway gives birth outside the hospital and is brought into Med by a bystander. This situation causes an internal debate at Med over the fate of the mother. Dr. Manning (Torrey DeVitto) pushes for the baby to be turned over to the mother's sister and suggests leniency for the minor mother; Dr. Choi (Brian Tee), on the other hand, argues that by abandoning the baby, the mother should be held legally accountable for her actions - including the possibility of attempted murder. After the mother's sister rejects the suggestion that she take the baby, Med is alerted that the police are on their way to talk to the mother. This causes a change of heart for Dr. Choi, who warns the mother in advance - and coaches her on what to say once the police arrive. The mother, left unattended, flees the hospital. Dr. Charles (Oliver Platt) attempts to get Dr. Choi to open up about his feelings, but Dr. Choi remains stoic.
Elsewhere, Dr. Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) faces a crisis of conscience after he resuscitates a heart attack victim - after the patient was clinically dead for 20 minutes. The man will be left incapacitated and in need of constant care, and his grieving wife bemoans his fate. Did Dr. Halstead do the right thing... or did he go too far?
Dr. Reese (Rachel DiPillo) deals with an Alzheimer's patient. Dr. Charles gently guides her through the woman's case, but before the patient is discharged, the two doctors make a startling discovery. Turns out, the Alzheimer's patient was misdiagnosed, and a procedure restores much of her cognitive abilities.
With appearances from Officers Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Roman (Brian Geraghty) from Chicago P.D.
