Jamie is the first cop on the scene after Officer James Stafford shoots and kills fourteen year-old Benny Alvarado, who was fleeing the site of a gang shootout with police. Stafford claims that Alvarado had a weapon on him and refused to comply, but the lack of a gun at the crime scene and the assertions of local witnesses seem to indicate that Stafford acted with excessive force. Frank finds himself and the department under increased scrutiny as council members and community leaders are quick to escalate the narrative that Stafford acted irresponsibly. Erin is tasked with investigating the case and manages to dig up evidence that shows Alvarado was not the saint the public and media are making him out to be. Ultimately, she finds Alvarado's "missing" gun with a bodega owner who swiped it from the crime scene before anyone could notice, and she successfully proves that Stafford's actions were justified. Meanwhile, Danny and Baez investigate the murder of Martin Kramer, a Wall Street securities trader who was deep in debt due to a gambling addiction. After speaking with Gary Heller, a former cop turned CI in the gambling world, Danny learns that Kramer was involved with high stakes poker games run by an Egyptian art dealer named Teri Damri. Unfortunately for Danny, he also learns that Henry's name appears in Damri's extensive ledger book for his participation in a few poker games many years ago. Danny asks Gary to swipe the ledger from Damri to protect his grandfather, but he is overcome with guilt when he later discovers the bodies of both Heller and Damri, both murdered by Russian thugs involved in the gambling ring.
