AceShowbiz - A memorial celebration honoring late rapper Mac Dre ended in chaos on Sunday, July 4 when police in California were forced to open fire and shoot a suspected gunman. Over 1,500 fans gathered at the North Vallejo Park late on Sunday night to mark what would have been Dre's 40th birthday on Monday.
But the event came to an abrupt end when officers were called to the scene following reports of gunfire in the park. A man with a firearm was spotted fleeing the scene and police gave chase, shooting him several times as the armed suspect attempted to escape.
The suspect was arrested and taken to a local hospital, where he is recovering after being treated for his injuries. It is unknown whether the man shot at officers first to prompt the gunfight, reports AllHipHop.com.
Ironically, Dre, real name Andre Hicks, died after he was shot in Kansas City in November 2004.
