AceShowbiz - The executors of Michael Jackson's estate have agreed to reimburse Los Angeles authorities for the cost of the late superstar's elaborate memorial service by sharing the $1.3 million expenses with concert promoters AEG. The "Thriller" hitmaker was laid to rest in a private family ceremony at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Hollywood Hills in July 2009 before the big concert tribute at the Staples Center.
A furore broke out over the expense of Jackson's funeral and memorial, which was broadcast across the globe, with local councilmen calling for the singer's family and event organizers AEG to foot the bill for all the extra security and personnel needed to ensure the public's safety, instead of Los Angeles tax payers.
Now, almost a year after Jackson's burial, the administrators of his estate and AEG bosses have reached a deal with city officials. They will pay the City of Los Angeles $1 million to cover the memorial, while they will also hand over $300,000 for new crime fighting equipment.
