AceShowbiz - The popular comedy franchise Grown Ups is set to continue with a third installment titled Grown Ups 3, which is currently in development at Netflix, the streaming giant announced during its recent Upfront presentation.
Adam Sandler and his frequent collaborators from the Happy Madison universe will reunite for the project. Alongside Sandler, actors David Spade, Rob Schneider, Chris Rock, and Kevin James are all confirmed to return for this upcoming sequel.
The film will be directed by Kyle Newacheck, who previously worked with Sandler on successful projects, including Happy Gilmore 2. That title was one of the biggest streaming hits of the prior year, setting a Nielsen record with 2.89 billion minutes viewed during its initial week of release.
The screenplay is written by Adam Sandler and longtime collaborator Tim Herlihy. Production duties are also handled by Sandler, Jackie Sandler, Jack Giarraputo, and Herlihy, with Kevin Grady and Judit Maull serving as executive producers.
The premise of the Grown Ups franchise centers on a group of childhood friends who reunite as adults during a summer vacation. The series has been a staple comedy franchise since the first film’s release in 2010.
Both previous films were directed by Dennis Dugan and released theatrically by Sony’s Columbia Pictures. The original Grown Ups earned approximately $272 million worldwide, while the 2013 sequel brought in around $247 million globally.
With Adam Sandler having a long-term production deal with Netflix spanning over a decade, it is a natural progression for the franchise’s next chapter to debut on the streaming platform. Sandler’s partnership with Netflix has resulted in more than ten films and other projects, solidifying the streaming service as the franchise’s new home.
The announcement marks an exciting return of the beloved ensemble and a continuation of the franchise’s comedic legacy in the streaming era. Fans can anticipate the familiar dynamic of friendship and humor that Grown Ups is known for, now accessible exclusively through Netflix.
