The original movie was a high-profile adaptation of the beloved Tintin comic series by Hergé, with Spielberg directing and Peter Jackson producing. During a recent Rendezvous session at Cannes, where Jackson was honored with an honorary Palme d'Or, he shared updates about the sequel’s progress. The filmmaker explained that the original plan was for Spielberg to direct the first film and for him to helm the second. While Spielberg completed his film back in 2011, Jackson admitted he hadn’t yet made his, stating, "I feel very awkward about that." Now, alongside his writing partner Fran Walsh, Jackson is scripting the follow-up and even worked on it during his stay at Cannes.

Jackson said, "I've been working with Fran [Walsh] on another Tintin script, I was writing it in the hotel room here. It's an active real thing, and I'm getting back into the Tintin world, and I actually love it." The original The Adventures of Tintin followed the young reporter Tintin and his companion Captain Haddock on a thrilling quest to uncover a sunken ship’s treasure.
