AceShowbiz - Roger Daltrey, the iconic frontman of The Who, is gearing up for a solo tour in the United States that could be his final one as a solo artist. This announcement comes less than a year after the conclusion of The Who's North American Farewell Tour.
The upcoming tour, titled A Great Night Out, is scheduled to begin in Arizona this August and will feature more dates than The Who's last run. Speaking to Rolling Stone, Daltrey described the tour as "one more for the road," hinting at a possible retirement from solo touring after 17 years on the road with various bands.
Daltrey shared his enthusiasm about the tour’s lineup, which includes nine musicians. He emphasized the joy of performing without backing tracks and exploring different soundscapes to present the songs in fresh ways. "It's a lot of fun and gives me the chance to have a great night out," he remarked.
Tickets for the tour will be available to the public starting Friday at 10 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster. Presale opportunities begin Wednesday at the same hour, with a special password, GREATNIGHT, required. Local presales will start Thursday, and VIP experiences will also be offered to fans.
The setlist for A Great Night Out will include selections from Daltrey's solo career, cover songs, and rare tracks from The Who's extensive catalog. During his 2024 solo shows, he performed songs from his albums McVicar (1980), Under a Raging Moon (1985), and Rocks in the Head (1992). Additionally, he played songs from his most recent solo album, As Long as I Have You (2018), which features mostly covers, including the title track.
Fans can also expect well-known The Who hits such as "Baba O'Riley" and "Who Are You," alongside deeper cuts like "Love Ain't for Keeping" from Who's Next and "Another Tricky Day" from Face Dances.
The tour’s backing band features familiar faces who also supported The Who during their final tour. Guitarist Simon Townshend, brother of Pete Townshend, bassist John Hogg, drummer Scott Devours, and percussionist Jody Linscott are all part of the lineup. They are joined by guitarist Doug Boyle, mandolinist Billy Nicholls, violinist Katie Jacoby, harmonica player Steve Weston, and keyboardist-accordionist Geraint Watkins. This ensemble mirrors the lineup from Daltrey's 2024 Semi-Acoustic Tour.
This trek will be especially notable as Daltrey's first U.S. tour since he was knighted last December. Prince William conducted the ceremony that honored Daltrey for his extensive charitable work with the Teenage Cancer Trust and his contributions to the arts. Reflecting on the honor, Daltrey said it was a privilege not only for himself but also for the “unsung heroes” who have contributed to the success of the charity.
As A Great Night Out approaches, fans can anticipate an engaging and dynamic performance from one of rock’s most enduring voices. The tour promises to be a heartfelt celebration of Daltrey's rich musical legacy and his ongoing connection with audiences across the country.
