AceShowbiz - The legendary British guitarist Ronnie Wood recently expressed his excitement for the upcoming release of the Rolling Stones’ 25th studio album, Foreign Tongues. Wood appeared on The Tonight Show on May 7, where his energy and enthusiasm for the project were clearly on display.
Wood, who is 78 years old, plans to reconnect with fans during a series of solo performances across the United Kingdom and Continental Europe this summer, marking his first solo tour in 16 years. Additionally, he will showcase his artwork in an exhibition set for November in Germany.
The highly anticipated album, set to drop on July 10, features 14 tracks primarily led by core members Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Wood. The record boasts notable guest appearances from musicians such as Paul McCartney, Steve Winwood, and Robert Smith of The Cure.
One of the standout moments on Foreign Tongues is a cover of Amy Winehouse’s “You Know I’m No Good.” This track originally appeared on Winehouse’s acclaimed 2006 album Back to Black. The connection between Winehouse and the Rolling Stones runs deep — she famously joined the band on stage during the Isle of Wight Festival in June 2007 to perform “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg.”
During his appearance on The Tonight Show, Wood also shared a preview of “Back In Your Life,” a song highlighted by a “fantastic” guitar solo that he recorded in one take. Wood revealed that the solo was inspired by the recent passing of musical icons Brian Wilson and Sly Stone, stating, “It came out my guitar, the feeling, you know. Just one take. I didn’t do that, the guitar played itself.”
Wood reminisced about his early days in music and art, crediting his older siblings for teaching him those skills. He recalled receiving his first guitar and the challenges he faced before fame, including his time with The Faces alongside Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart. His segment ended with an impromptu harmonica jam alongside host Jimmy Fallon and the house band.
Wood described the dual pursuit of music and art as “inspirational” and expressed gratitude for being able to explore both creative outlets through solo projects and as part of a band.
In the lead-up to the full album release, the Rolling Stones have shared two tracks: the opening song “Rough and Twisted” and the lead single “In the Stars.” Wood’s appearance on NBC came just one day after frontman Mick Jagger made his own appearance on The Tonight Show for a comedic sketch.
Foreign Tongues marks another significant chapter in the enduring career of the Rolling Stones, blending collaborations with iconic artists and a tribute to the late Amy Winehouse. Fans can look forward to the album’s full release on July 10, which promises a mix of classic rock energy and heartfelt homage.
Wood’s interview and performance on The Tonight Show offered a rich glimpse into the making of the album and the inspirations behind it, reaffirming the band’s legendary status and continuing influence in the music world.
