AceShowbiz - The inaugural edition of Carín León's La Cura Fest took place this past weekend in Hermosillo, Mexico, marking a triumphant realization of the artist's vision to host a large-scale event in his hometown. The festival successfully combined local pride with international star power, drawing a crowd of 70,000 over two days, according to official government reports.
Carín León shared with Billboard Español that his goal was to create a platform that not only celebrates Hermosillo’s culture and culinary heritage but also showcases regional talent alongside established colleagues. The event featured a diverse lineup representing genres such as country, rock, soul, pop, norteño tejano, and regional Mexican music.
The festival’s impressive roster included notable artists like Midland, Kevin Kaarl, Alejandro Sanz, Kany García, and Grupo Frontera. Over the weekend of March 14-15, fans experienced memorable performances, including collaborative live renditions of songs recorded with León. Highlights included “Te Lo Agradezco” performed alongside Kany García and “Como Lo Hice Yo” with Matisse, who also made a guest appearance at the festival.
Additional standout moments featured corridos tumbados sensation Gabito Ballesteros joining León to perform “Ese Vato No Te Queda,” while Sonoran artist Kakalo accompanied him on the song “Tierra Trágame.”
Conceived by León, La Cura Fest also aims to promote Hermosillo as a tourist destination in northwestern Mexico. In conjunction with the festival, the Mexican superstar launched a tour spanning Europe, Canada, and the United States. This tour includes a highly anticipated series of shows scheduled for September at The Sphere in Las Vegas.
One of the festival’s early highlights was the performance by Kevin Kaarl, a 25-year-old folk singer from Chihuahua known for his romantic, melancholic style. His set, lasting about an hour, captivated the audience with songs such as “Abrazado a Ti,” “San Lucas,” “Colapso,” and “Vestido Blanco,” which has become emblematic of his rising career. Kaarl expressed his affection for Hermosillo, calling it one of the cities where he feels most connected with the crowd.
La Cura Fest's debut not only fulfilled León's aspiration but also offered a vibrant cultural experience for attendees, blending local artistry with international talent and setting the stage for future editions of this promising festival.
