AceShowbiz - Saturday Night Live celebrated the safe return of NASA’s Artemis II crew with a humorous sketch that centers on an astronaut’s struggle to deliver a serious video message amid distracting antics from his crewmates.
The episode featured host Colman Domingo portraying pilot Victor Glover, who begins his video log on day nine of the ten-day lunar mission by reflecting solemnly on the profound sight of Earth from space.
“Seeing our planet like this is pretty profound,” Glover states. “Being a man of faith, this has certainly brought me closer to God.” However, his attempt at a thoughtful message quickly unravels when a red Pringles can floats into view.
“Oh come on, guys! You’ve got to velcro your snacks to the wall,” Glover exclaims, visibly frustrated. Meanwhile, astronauts Reid and Hansen, played by Marcello Hernandez and Mikey Day, respectively, bicker over the floating food, revealing their boredom on the mission.
As Glover tries to read a quote from Apollo astronaut Jim Lovell, Reid interrupts by proudly waving a Canadian flag. At the same time, astronaut Christina, portrayed by Sarah Sherman, drifts by asleep and snoring.
After Glover pushes Christina aside, Reid and Hansen initiate a game called “no hands hat,” further disrupting the setting. His attempt to quote Sally Ride is cut short when Christina reappears, still asleep but now marked with Sharpie doodles by Reid and Hansen.
The chaos escalates when Reid approaches Glover with an urgent issue: “Hey Victor, my pee pee’s stuck in the tube again!” he says anxiously, holding the device. Glover’s exasperation grows as he tries to maintain order in the midst of the unruliness.
This SNL sketch humorously captures the contrast between the solemnity of space exploration and the playful distractions of astronauts confined together, highlighting the comedic talents of Colman Domingo and the supporting cast as they parody the Artemis II mission’s homecoming.
