AceShowbiz - Texas Black Rodeo Drama is a new series greenlit by Starz, marking a significant addition to the network’s growing slate of original programming focused on underrepresented voices. The drama, set in southeast Texas and centered on the world of Black rodeo, will be showrun by Kirk A. Moore, known for his work on Demascus and American Crime.

Starz, led by CEO Jeffrey Hirsch, is increasingly focused on owning more of its content pipeline following its recent split from Lionsgate. This untitled drama reflects the network’s commitment to producing shows that resonate with women and diverse audiences.

The series is described as "infused with hip hop swagger and country soul," capturing a unique cultural experience where rodeo is not just a sport but a way of life. At the narrative’s core are three siblings connected by the legacy their mother established and the unresolved issues left by their father. Their intertwined ambitions and shifting relationships create a dynamic and emotionally charged story where privacy is scarce.

This new drama joins Starz’s broader initiative to develop premium content rooted in Black Southern culture. It follows the network’s earlier scripted series order for Fightland, a British boxing drama executive produced by Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson. Without a studio partner, Starz aims to grow its portfolio of intellectual property that it fully owns and controls.

Kathryn Busby, president of original programming at Starz, emphasized the network’s pride in creating bold, original stories from the ground up. She highlighted the show’s blend of complex family dynamics, spectacular visuals, and undeniable style as key reasons the series stands out.

The upcoming series will feature eight one-hour episodes. Alongside Moore, executive producers include Mark Johnson, Myki Bajaj, Tony Hernandez, Elise Henderson, and Lilly Burns. For Starz, Giovanna Desselle, vice president of original programming, and Christina Jokanovich, senior vice president of original programming, will oversee the production.

Kirk A. Moore is represented by CAA and manager Scott Carr, underscoring the professional backing behind this promising project. As Starz continues to expand its content library, this Texas Black rodeo drama is poised to bring a fresh and culturally rich narrative to premium television audiences.
