Busta Rhymes settles assault lawsuit with ex-assistant over alleged 2025 punch, dispute involving chicken and cellphone policy.

AceShowbiz - Busta Rhymes has reached a confidential settlement with his former assistant, who accused the rapper of assaulting him in 2025. The dispute arose after the ex-assistant, Dashiel Gables, alleged that the Grammy-nominated artist punched him in the face in the lobby of Rhymes’ Brooklyn apartment building.
Gables claimed the incident was triggered by frustration over a delayed pan of chicken and a phone call he took from his young daughter, which reportedly violated a no-cellphone policy at work. Following the accusation, Busta Rhymes, whose real name is Trevor Smith Jr., was arrested and given a desk appearance ticket for third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, as reported by CBS News New York.
Last August, Gables filed a federal lawsuit citing assault and battery, while also invoking the Fair Labor Standards Act. He alleged workplace mistreatment and claimed he was blacklisted from the hip-hop industry after the alleged incident. Busta Rhymes denied these allegations and responded by filing a defamation counterclaim in October, stating that the accusations harmed his reputation and led to lost income and business opportunities.
The confidential settlement brings an end to the legal battle between Busta Rhymes and Dashiel Gables, concluding the dispute without further court proceedings. The terms of the agreement were not disclosed, leaving the specifics of the resolution private.
