The performance took place on the second night of Williams' three-night run at the renowned Ryman Auditorium, marking a special moment on her first solo tour. Before starting the song, Kahan expressed his admiration, saying, "Thank you Hayley, you're a legend." The two artists then collaborated on the track, with Williams providing harmonies on the chorus.
"Downfall" is a notable piece co-produced and co-written by Kahan, alongside Aaron Dessner and Gabe Simon. The song also features backing vocals from Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, adding depth to the track’s sound. This collaboration highlights the artistic synergy behind the song.
Just days before this live performance, on April 24, Kahan released his new album The Great Divide. Shortly after, he unveiled an extended edition titled The Great Divide: The Last of the Bugs, which includes four additional songs: "Lighthouse," "Staying Still," "A Few of Your Own," and "Orbiter."
