AceShowbiz - Diff'rent Strokes star Todd Bridges made startling claims about his late co-star Dana Plato in a recent episode of the Investigation Discovery docuseries Hollywood Demons.
During the episode that aired on Monday, April 27, Bridges, 60, recounted a shocking experience from the show’s set. He said, "At 12 years old, I was sleeping one time in a room on the set. All of a sudden, someone unzipped my pants down and started giving me a blowjob - and it was Dana."
Reflecting on the incident, Bridges expressed confusion and concern over how a young girl his age could have known about such acts. He questioned, "How would a 12-year-old girl know about that? The only way you would do that to someone else is if you experienced it yourself."
The docuseries Hollywood Demons explores the dark side of child stardom, focusing on young actors who face immense pressure and trauma in the entertainment industry. Bridges also revealed that Plato introduced him to his first group sexual experiences, including threesomes, foursomes, and fivesomes, describing her as "wild" and his gateway to these encounters.
He shared, "Dana was wild. My first experience with everything was with Dana. It was all Dana." Despite their off-screen escapades, Bridges lamented that Plato struggled emotionally and rarely opened up about her feelings, which could have helped her.
Diff'rent Strokes, which aired from 1978 to 1986, starred Gary Coleman and Todd Bridges as two boys from Harlem adopted by a wealthy Park Avenue family. Plato played their adoptive sister Kimberly. Although the show brought fame, many involved faced personal difficulties away from the cameras.
Bridges himself struggled with legal issues and drug addiction before achieving sobriety in 1993. Coleman battled kidney disease from childhood and tragically died at 42 after a fall at his Utah home in 2010. Plato suffered from substance abuse and died from an overdose in 1999 at age 34.
In the Hollywood Demons episode, Dr. Drew Pinsky commented on Plato’s public struggles, including the sexual encounters she had with Bridges. He stated, "That is typically sex addiction. You have to wonder when young children engage in sexual acts that they maybe shouldn't have understood, there may have been some sexual abuse prior."
The series highlights the troubling realities child actors face, from exploitation on set to the psychological toll fame can take. The episode featuring Bridges and others discusses how many young stars are forced into adult situations and sometimes shift careers dramatically after leaving the spotlight.
Hollywood Demons is now in its second season and aims to shed light on the hidden dangers of child stardom, including onset perversion, suicidal thoughts, and the risk of Hollywood exile. The show features candid interviews with former child actors like Dan Benson, Maitland Ward, and Scott Schwartz, who share their own journeys and career changes.
The episode with Bridges aired on Investigation Discovery on April 27 at 9 p.m. ET and is available for streaming on HBO Max.
