AceShowbiz - The production of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 has encountered a significant change after unexpected flooding halted filming in Spain. The series was shooting in Gran Canaria at the Las Niñas Dam when historic floods caused by high water levels forced production to stop. Local authorities reported that this location will remain closed for several weeks to manage the cleanup and address the damage.
According to reports from Atlántico Hoy, filming is set to resume soon but at an alternative site in Spain. The cast and crew will continue their work at La Fortaleza, also located in Gran Canaria. This mountainous area, featured in recent set photos, presents a very different landscape compared to the originally planned dam location, which is characterized by water and wooded surroundings.
Production tents had already been established at La Fortaleza for about a month, indicating that this site was considered a backup or complementary location from the beginning. Meanwhile, scouting efforts are underway to find a permanent replacement for the Las Niñas Dam scenes that could no longer proceed there.
The first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms began filming in Belfast, Ireland, in December 2025, even before the show's January 2026 premiere on HBO. The series expanded the universe of Westeros, introducing viewers to new characters like Dunk and Egg, played by Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell respectively, adapted from George R.R. Martin’s renowned Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas.
Unlike its predecessor series, Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, which focused on large-scale battles and dragons, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms takes a smaller, more comedic approach to storytelling. The first season adapted The Hedge Knight novella, while the upcoming second season will center on The Sworn Sword, continuing to explore the rich lore crafted by Martin.
The first season’s ensemble cast also included Daniel Ings, Shaun Thomas, Tanzyn Crawford, Danny Webb, Henry Ashton, Daniel Monks, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Edward Ashley, Bertie Carvel, Sam Spruell, Finn Bennett, and Youssef Kerkour. For the second season, new cast members joining include Lucy Boynton, Peter Mullan, and Babou Ceesay.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has received critical acclaim, boasting a 94% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. Its debut was also a commercial success, attracting 6.7 million viewers within the first three days on HBO Max, making it one of the platform’s most successful premieres.
While no official premiere date has been announced for season 2, the series is anticipated to return in 2027. This will coincide with the release of House of the Dragon season 3, which is scheduled for this summer, continuing the expansion of George R.R. Martin’s Westeros saga on television.
