AceShowbiz - The Dog Stars is the latest thriller featuring Jacob Elordi, who was showcased during Disney’s CinemaCon event on Thursday. The film presents a gripping narrative set in a harsh post-apocalyptic world, where survival and hope collide.
Jacob Elordi plays Hig, a young pilot who has established a secluded and efficient homestead alongside a military survivalist named Bangley, portrayed by Josh Brolin. Their isolated life is disrupted when a mysterious radio signal motivates Hig to embark on a perilous journey in search of the remnants of humanity and optimism he believes still exist.
The project is directed by Ridley Scott, with a planned theatrical release date of August 28. It is adapted from Peter Heller’s bestselling novel and features a talented ensemble cast, including Margaret Qualley, Guy Pearce, Benedict Wong, and Allison Janney. The screenplay is written by Mark L. Smith, while production credits include Ridley Scott, Michael Pruss, and Cliff Roberts.
The first trailer for The Dog Stars premiered simultaneously at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, following a virtual appearance by Scott. The footage opens with Elordi and Qualley as a married couple, joyfully bringing home a dog. However, the scene soon shifts to show Elordi alone with the dog. When Brolin’s character asks, “So what’d you do before the world ended?”, Elordi’s Hig responds, “I was kissing my wife, playing with my dog, wondering every day how I got so lucky.”
The trailer then depicts Hig taking to the skies in a classic airplane, interspersed with flashbacks of intimate moments with his wife. One poignant scene shows her admitting, “I don’t like the feeling of wondering if you’re gonna come back.” The tension escalates as Elordi’s character faces danger, with men on horseback chasing him and even leaping onto the wing of his plane.
Initially, Paul Mescal was attached to lead the film, marking a reunion with Ridley Scott after their collaboration on Gladiator II. However, Mescal had to depart the project to commit to director Sam Mendes’ four-film Beatles series. This paved the way for Elordi to step into the role of Hig.
The Dog Stars promises to blend intense action with emotional depth, driven by the talents of its cast and the visionary direction of Ridley Scott. Audiences can anticipate its release on August 28, when the film will arrive in theaters nationwide.
