AceShowbiz - Disney+ has announced the spring release dates for two Korean original series, continuing its strategic expansion of premium local content in Asia. The romantic comedy Perfect Crown is scheduled to premiere on April 10, followed by the crime thriller Gold Land debuting on April 29.
Perfect Crown marks the first on-screen collaboration between IU and Byeon Woo-seok in a story set against the backdrop of royal succession conflicts and chaebol power struggles. The narrative centers on Grand Prince I-AN, a beloved royal figure caught in palace intrigues, who enters into a marriage of convenience with Huiju, the wealthy heiress of a major conglomerate. Their initially pragmatic alliance gradually evolves into a more complex relationship. IU plays Huiju, while Byeon Woo-seok portrays the prince. This series is directed by Park Joon-hwa and penned by writer Yoo Jiwon.
In contrast, Gold Land offers a darker, thriller-driven plot crafted by Hwang Jo-Yoon, the screenwriter behind Oldboy, making his debut in streaming series. Directed by Kim Sung-hoon, the show follows Heeju, a small-town woman whose life seems on track as she dates a pilot and lands a stable airport job. Her world turns upside down when she becomes entangled in a smuggling operation, forcing her to flee while carrying a stash of gold bars. Park Bo-young stars as Heeju, with Kim Sung-cheol playing Woogy, a gangster pursuing her. Gold Land will have two episodes weekly through May 27.
These two series are part of Disney+’s broader initiative to enrich its East Asian content portfolio with high-quality, star-driven productions. The streamer aims to maintain a steady release schedule to strengthen its position in competitive regional markets for premium dramas.
Additionally, Disney+ recently unveiled plans for a Korean adaptation of the acclaimed FX series The Americans, titled The Koreans. This ambitious remake will be a local-language reimagining starring Lee Byung-hun and Han Ji-min, underlining the platform’s commitment to tailoring content for regional audiences.
