AceShowbiz - Ashley Hebert opened up about the toll her marriage to J.P. Rosenbaum took on her health before they divorced. Speaking on the April 9 episode of the "I Do, Part 2" podcast, she shared that the stress she endured during their marriage made her fear for her well-being, saying it felt like the relationship was going to "kill me."
She elaborated on how women often hold in stress, which can lead to autoimmune diseases, explaining that this was a reality she felt firsthand. While emphasizing that her feelings were not meant as an insult to J.P. Rosenbaum, she made it clear that prioritizing her overall health was a key factor in her decision to end the marriage in 2020.
"I made the decision because I care about myself and my health a lot," Ashley Hebert said, highlighting her desire to be present and healthy for their children. The former couple share two kids: son Ford, 11, and daughter Essie, 9.
Reflecting on the aftermath of their separation, Ashley Hebert recalled the intense backlash she received on social media, particularly from men. On the March 2 episode of the Bachelor Nation podcast, she described the "mind-blowing" amount of hate she faced when news of the split became public.
Looking back, she said there was a defining moment that made it clear to her there was no turning back. Although she chose not to share specifics because it was "too personal," she described it as a pivotal conversation that helped solidify her decision to leave the marriage.
Despite the end of her marriage, Ashley Hebert expressed contentment with her life as a single mother, but still believes in the importance of trying to make a marriage work whenever possible.
She and J.P. Rosenbaum sought to salvage their relationship through therapy, which they undertook during the COVID-19 pandemic via Zoom. However, after several sessions, she realized the therapy was not producing the change she hoped for. She described feeling that the person they presented during the sessions was different from the person they were once the computer was off.
She recalled, "Something happened and it didn't work," referencing a therapy session conversation that ultimately contributed to the marriage's end. Ashley Hebert has since come to accept that divorce can be the right choice if a relationship is unhealthy and efforts to repair it have been exhausted.
She stated, "I think divorce is OK if it's not working for you. If it's unhealthy and you've worked at it, it's OK."
Ashley Hebert first appeared on Bachelor Nation during the 2011 season of The Bachelor. Later that year, she was named the season 7 The Bachelorette, where she met and fell in love with J.P. Rosenbaum. Their relationship progressed quickly, with J.P. Rosenbaum proposing during the May 2011 season finale.
Their wedding was televised in December 2012, but after seven years of marriage, they announced their split in October 2020. Their divorce was finalized by October 2021.
Since separating, Ashley Hebert and J.P. Rosenbaum have maintained a cooperative co-parenting relationship. They have even vacationed together as a family, including a planned trip to Hawaii in summer 2025, demonstrating their commitment to their children’s well-being despite their divorce.
