Oscars 2027 & 2028 dates confirmed: Mark your calendars for March. See the full schedule and key deadlines for the milestone 100th Academy Awards.
- April 8, 2026
AceShowbiz - The Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, will continue to hold their ceremonies in March for the next two years, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Tuesday. The 99th Oscars ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, March 14, 2027, while the milestone 100th Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, March 5, 2028.
This scheduling means the 2027 Oscars will occur just one day earlier than this year’s ceremony, which was held on March 15, 2024, effectively ending any speculation about a significantly shortened awards season. The 2028 show returns to an early March date, similar to the 2024 Oscars and the 2018 ceremony.
Alongside the event dates, the Academy also released key deadlines and voting timelines for the 2027 awards cycle. The final submission deadline for General Entry categories, Animated Feature Film, Best Picture, and the RAISE form will be on Thursday, November 12, 2026. Shortly after, the Governors Awards ceremony is planned for Sunday, November 15, 2026.
Preliminary voting will open at 9 a.m. PT on Monday, December 7, 2026, and close at 5 p.m. PT on Friday, December 11. The Academy will then announce shortlists on Tuesday, December 15. Nomination voting will begin at 9 a.m. PT on Monday, January 11, 2027, and end at 5 p.m. PT on Friday, January 15, 2027. The nominees for the 99th Academy Awards will be revealed on Thursday, January 21, 2027.
The Oscars nominees luncheon is set for Tuesday, February 16, 2027. Final voting for the 99th Academy Awards will open at 9 a.m. PT on Thursday, February 25, and close at 5 p.m. PT on Thursday, March 4, just one day before the ceremony itself.
The Academy did not disclose any additional dates for the 2028 awards season beyond the ceremony date. That year’s Oscars, marking the 100th anniversary of the event, will be notable for several reasons. It will be the last Oscars broadcast on ABC, which has been the ceremony’s television home since 1976. It will also be the final Oscars held at the Dolby Theater, the venue used annually since 2002 except for the pandemic-affected 2021 ceremony.
Beginning with the 101st Academy Awards, the broadcast rights will shift from ABC to YouTube. The ceremony will move to L.A. Live’s Peacock Theater, which is expected to have a new name by 2029 as naming rights are currently available.
The choice of March 5, 2028, as the date for the 100th Academy Awards echoes two other significant Oscar ceremonies held on the same date. The 8th Academy Awards took place on March 5, 1936, honoring Mutiny on the Bounty as Best Picture and awarding Bette Davis Best Actress for Dangerous, a year after her notable write-in campaign for Of Human Bondage. Additionally, the 78th Academy Awards were held on March 5, 2006, a ceremony remembered for awarding Best Picture to Crash over the widely favored Brokeback Mountain.
