Oscar Isaac reveals why he took the X-Men: Apocalypse role and why the painful 40-pound suit made it an excruciating experience.

AceShowbiz - X-Men: Apocalypse star Oscar Isaac recently shared the true motivation behind his decision to portray the film’s villain. He told GQ in a 2023 interview that he accepted the role of Apocalypse because he "just wanted to do a big movie" after working on smaller projects, and he was excited by the initial concept art and the idea of playing a villain who was "like a god."
Isaac revealed that the experience "went wrong" primarily due to the extensive, uncomfortable costume and prosthetics. He described the process as "excruciating," stating he had to wear a 40-pound suit and a large, immovable helmet that left him unable to move his head or see other actors. He said, "I didn't know when I said yes that... I would be encased in glue, latex, and a 40-pound suit."
The actor explained that this physical confinement prevented him from performing or interacting with other actors as he wanted, making the role unfulfilling. He felt he "had no idea what I was doing" and that the final execution was not what he had anticipated when he signed on.
Despite these challenges, Oscar Isaac remains proud of his contribution to X-Men: Apocalypse. His experience serves as an insightful perspective on the complexities involved in portraying villains within blockbuster movies.
