AceShowbiz - Paramount Pictures is advancing with the film adaptation of Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, a novel widely regarded as one of the best literary works of the 21st century. According to Variety, Daisy Edgar-Jones has been cast as one of the lead roles in this highly anticipated project.
The novel, written by Gabrielle Zevin and published in 2022, was recognized by The New York Times as one of the 100 best books of the 21st Century. It centers on two childhood friends, Sam and Sadie, who reconnect during their college years to create a hit video game and eventually establish a successful game development studio. Daisy Edgar-Jones will portray Sadie Green, the talented video game designer at the heart of the story.
At this stage, casting announcements for Sam, Sadie’s childhood friend and business partner, as well as Marx, Sam's roommate and the third partner in their venture, have not yet been made public. The film’s director and screenwriter will be Sian Heder, known for her Oscar-winning work on the 2021 film CODA. Heder is also recognized for her writing contributions to television series like Orange is the New Black, Little America, and Tallulah. The screenplay is based on drafts by both Zevin and Mark Bomback, promising a faithful and compelling adaptation.
This marks Daisy Edgar-Jones' first collaboration with Heder, though the director’s past projects have featured a range of notable actors. The chemistry between the leads will be a crucial element given the story’s focus on friendship, creativity, and collaboration within the gaming industry.
Daisy Edgar-Jones recently appeared in two films released in 2024: On Swift Horses and Twisters. In Twisters, she starred alongside Glen Powell and Anthony Ramos in the disaster blockbuster directed by Lee Isaac Chung. Her role in Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow will not be her first experience adapting a popular book; she previously gained widespread recognition starring opposite Paul Mescal in the TV miniseries Normal People, itself an adaptation of Sally Rooney’s acclaimed novel.
The psychological drama of Normal People was a breakout moment for both actors, with Paul Mescal soon starring in films such as The Lost Daughter and Aftersun. Meanwhile, Daisy Edgar-Jones also starred in the 2022 film adaptation of Delia Owens’ thriller Where the Crawdads Sing. Other notable appearances include Fresh and War of the Worlds.
As the adaptation of Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow moves forward, much remains to be revealed about the full cast and production details. However, the combination of Zevin’s critically acclaimed source material, Heder’s Oscar-winning direction, and Daisy Edgar-Jones' proven talent suggests this project could become a standout role in the actress’s career.
