AceShowbiz - 50 Cent made a significant donation of $500,000 to nine nonprofits in Shreveport and Caddo Parish that support survivors of domestic violence. The announcement came during a check presentation held at the Martin Luther King Development Center on Wednesday.
The donation was inspired by 50 Cent’s work on a Netflix documentary, which prompted him to pledge proceeds toward domestic violence causes. 50 Cent shared that the decision to focus on Shreveport was personal and intentional, emphasizing the direct impact the funds will have on local communities.
50 Cent stated, "The idea of making a donation to these organizations that came along with producing the documentary for Netflix, and I said I would donate proceeds to domestic violence." He also added that while he did not specify the location initially, he chose Shreveport because he values the community and wants the funds to reach people effectively.
The nine organizations benefiting from this donation include Gingerbread House, The Fountain's Community Development Corporation, Families Helping Families Region 7, Elle Foundation, Moms on a Mission, Best 13, MLK Community Development Corporation, MLK Neighborhood Association, and Northwest Louisiana Youth Golf & Education Foundation. These groups provide vital services such as housing assistance and legal support to survivors of domestic violence.
District A Councilwoman Tabitha Taylor highlighted the urgency of supporting these services given the rising domestic violence cases in the parish. She stressed the importance of giving a voice to silent victims, including children affected by abuse.
"It's a life-altering moment, and sometimes the silent victims, which are the children, voices are never heard. Today, we want to make sure that those victims know that they have a voice," Taylor said.
The donation is intended to enhance access to comprehensive support services that help survivors move toward safety and recovery. 50 Cent expressed his enthusiasm about contributing to the community in this meaningful way, saying, "I'm excited to be a part of a community and participate in a different way."
Local leaders emphasized their commitment to ensuring survivors can easily find support and rebuild their lives. The funds will be used by the recipient nonprofits to continue education, awareness campaigns, and resources aimed at families impacted by domestic violence.
