AceShowbiz - Flavor Flav has revealed plans to host a four-day celebration called "She Got Game" in Las Vegas from July 16 through July 19. The event will honor the U.S. women's ice hockey team’s gold medal victory at the Milano Cortina Olympics, as well as other female Olympians and Paralympians who secured medals for the United States.
Flavor Flav announced the upcoming event on the social media platform X, confirming that it will be organized in partnership with MGM Resorts International. This collaboration aims to create a memorable and grand celebration for the athletes who have excelled at the Winter Games.
On February 24, Flavor Flav shared an Instagram video outlining his ambitious vision for the event, emphasizing the desire to make the celebration bigger and better than ever before. "I want to bring all United States female Olympians and Paralympians, the ones that won medals," he stated, highlighting his goal of including all deserving athletes in the festivities.
The planned celebration promises a variety of activities over the four days, including a parade and entertainment. Flavor Flav said, "I'm going to give them a parade, they're definitely going to have a parade. And then also, I'm going to see what type of entertainment that I can put together." He also shared that formal invitations have been sent to the women's hockey team, inviting them to enjoy dinners and shows in Las Vegas as part of the event.
"It looks historical, it looks fun and it looks like whoever comes out to this event is going to have a damn good time," Flavor Flav added, expressing his enthusiasm about the celebration’s potential to create lasting memories for all attendees.
The inspiration for "She Got Game" was sparked by recent controversy surrounding President Donald Trump's comments about the women's hockey team. In a February 25 interview with USA Today, Flavor Flav explained that the celebration was motivated by Trump's remark that he would "probably be impeached" if he did not invite the women's team to the State of the Union address alongside the men’s team.
This remark occurred during a locker-room phone call congratulating the men's hockey team on their 2-1 overtime victory over Canada at the Winter Olympics. During the call, Trump said, "We're going to have to bring the women's team, you do know that," before joking he might face impeachment if he failed to extend the invitation.
The women’s hockey team had declined the invitation to attend the State of the Union address, with USA Hockey citing logistics and travel complications as the reasons for their absence. Flavor Flav expressed dissatisfaction with how the invitation was handled, stating, "The invitation that was given to the women, it was some type of mediocre invitation. So, I'm like, 'hey, listen, it's okay. I'll give you guys a party. Don't even worry about it.'"
Reactions to the president’s comments have been mixed. Hilary Knight, a forward on the gold medal-winning team, described the remarks as "a distasteful joke" that has unfortunately overshadowed much of the women’s success in Italy. Meanwhile, Melissa Katz, a representative for USA Hockey, issued a statement saying the team feels "honored and grateful for the invitations and support they've received" and that they will "engage with the opportunities as their schedules permit."
While the event centers on celebrating female athletes, Flavor Flav emphasized its inclusivity. In his USA Today interview, he expressed a desire for all athletes, including men, to participate and support their female counterparts. "This is really for all athletes that's out there, busting their butt and doing a good job to make United States look good," he said. "I want (the men) to be here, I want them to come out so they can help support their fellow women athletes."
Partners for the "She Got Game" event include MGM Resorts and The Gist, a women-led sports media company. MGM Resorts confirmed their involvement in a February 26 statement, announcing that planning is underway and promising to celebrate the USA athletes in a manner only MGM can deliver.
This will not be Flavor Flav's first involvement with Team USA celebrations. He previously served as the official hypeman for Team USA Bobsled and Skeleton in Italy and also supported U.S. water polo teams during the 2024 Summer Games in Paris.
Details such as the parade route, specific entertainment acts, and ticketing have not yet been released, but fans and participants alike look forward to a lively and historic event to honor America’s top female athletes.
