AceShowbiz - Justin Timberlake has secured a significant legal victory in his effort to prevent the release of police footage capturing his 2024 arrest. The pop star was granted a temporary restraining order to block the public disclosure of video recorded during the incident.

The 45-year-old singer was stopped by police in Sag Harbor, New York, in June 2024 after allegedly running a stop sign and swerving between lanes. The footage in question was captured via police body cameras during the traffic stop.

Following the arrest, Justin Timberlake later pleaded guilty to a traffic violation and driving while ability impaired. His legal team swiftly moved to prevent the video from being released, citing concerns over privacy and personal harm.

Legal documents filed in Sag Harbor argue that the footage shows the singer "in an acutely vulnerable state during a roadside encounter with law enforcement." The papers emphasize that the video contains "intimate details" of Timberlake’s "physical appearance, demeanour, speech, and conduct," raising fears that its release would cause significant damage.

According to reports from Variety, Suffolk County Judge Joseph Farneti approved the restraining order request on Thursday, March 5, 2025. Authorities in Sag Harbor have been ordered to provide additional documentation related to the case by April 9.

Timberlake’s attorney, Michael Del Piano, argued that making the footage public would inflict "severe and irreparable harm" on the singer’s "personal and professional reputation." The legal filings also contend that the disclosure would expose Timberlake to "public ridicule and harassment."

The lawyer further stated, "There is no legitimate public interest in understanding the operations of government ... disclosure of this footage would constitute an unwarranted invasion [of Timberlake’s privacy]."

As part of the legal consequences following his guilty plea, Justin Timberlake was ordered to complete between 25 and 40 hours of community service. Additionally, his New York driving license was suspended for 90 days. He was fined $500 with an additional $260 surcharge.

During the incident, the singer claimed to have consumed only one alcoholic beverage. After the case concluded, Timberlake addressed the public outside the courtroom, urging others to avoid making the same mistake.

He stated, "What I'd like to say to everyone watching and listening, even if you've had one drink, don't get behind the wheel of a car. There are so many alternatives. Call a friend, take an Uber, there are many travel apps, take a taxi. This is a mistake that I made, but I am hoping that whoever is watching and listening right now can learn from this mistake."
