AceShowbiz - Mykelti Brown Padron, daughter of Sister Wives stars Kody and Christine Brown, has publicly addressed and pushed back against a wave of criticism concerning her children's use of iPads during a recent family road trip. The reality television personality, known for her candidness about motherhood, shared that she received an overwhelming amount of negative feedback, including direct messages and comments, after revealing her children were entertained by tablets on a four-hour journey.
"I got some serious hate comments recently," Mykelti disclosed in a video posted to her Instagram on January 8th. "I actually got hate DMs. Massive amounts of them." The 29-year-old explained the context of the situation, noting that she and her husband, Tony Padron, were also engaged with their own forms of digital entertainment during the drive. "We were in a drive on the way to my sister's house. I had my Kindle, I had my phone, I was scrolling. Tony had his podcast, he was listening," she recounted.
Mykelti, who married Tony in 2016, highlighted the apparent hypocrisy of the criticism. Since she and Tony were "entertained" by their devices, she reasoned, it was only fair for their children—daughter Avalon, 4, and twin sons Archer and Ace, 3—to have the same opportunity. "I gave my kids iPads so that they could be entertained as well," she asserted. "They could enjoy the drive. It's four hours. They're fine." The star expressed her surprise at the intensity of the backlash, particularly given that adults frequently rely on technology for entertainment during travel.
"[We] get on our phones while we drive," Mykelti pointed out, adding, "You know, I'm a straight-up passenger princess." She firmly rejected the judgment, stating, "I don't like that. We get judged so hard as a mom for trying to entertain my kids." Her forthright response resonated deeply with many of her followers, who quickly flooded her comments section with messages of support and solidarity.
One user echoed a common sentiment, writing, "Seriously?? Who isn’t giving their children a iPad or smart phone on drives??" Another follower offered encouragement, advising, "You don’t owe anyone an explanation. We are all out here surviving and doing the best we can." A particularly insightful comment highlighted the irony of the situation: "They are writing hate comments to you… FROM THEIR PHONE. It’s ridiculous. I will never understand the iPad hate from other moms."
This incident is not the first time Mykelti Brown Padron has openly discussed the challenges and pressures of motherhood. Since welcoming her children, she has consistently been transparent with her audience about the profound changes in her life, the immense pressure she places on herself to be the "best mom," and the guilt she often experiences during difficult moments. In an Instagram post from August, she shared her personal struggles, acknowledging that it's normal to feel overwhelmed.
"I get really upset at myself when it happens," she wrote. "Sometimes I do yell, sometimes I do breakdown & need a minute, sometimes I just turn on the TV and I leave the room. It’s completely normal." The TLC star frequently reminds herself, and by extension, her followers, that "this is my first time being a mom." She emphasizes that there's "no perfect guide," and that she, like all parents, is human. Her current focus, she explained, is on self-forgiveness and recognizing that as long as her children are "happy, healthy, and I help them create new memories and learn," she is indeed doing a great job and is the best mom for them.
