Fast food giant Wendy's sparked controversy with snarky tweets targeting Katy Perry's recent Blue Origin space flight, igniting a fiery debate on social media.

AceShowbiz - Wendy's is seemingly in damage control mode following backlash over a series of snarky tweets directed at pop star Katy Perry and her recent Blue Origin space flight. The fast food chain initially quipped, "Can we send her back?" - a comment that set off a wave of criticism.

The inflammatory tweets from Wendy's didn't stop there; another post read, "When we said women in STEM, this isn't what we meant."

The shade quickly went viral, drawing ire from many who viewed the remarks as blatant bullying.

A source close to Perry described Wendy's tweets as "not harmless banter" but a deliberate move by "a billion-dollar brand using its platform to publicly demean a woman." They added, "Telling a woman that she should be 'sent back' is shameful bullying… and what's worse is that the face of Wendy's is a woman."

Amid the heat, Wendy's issued a statement to People magazine, "We always bring a little spice to our socials, but Wendy's has a ton of respect for Katy Perry and her out-of-this-world talent."

Nevertheless, the lack of a direct apology has left many unsatisfied.

Katy Perry's Blue Origin trip - which also included notable figures like Gayle King, Lauren Sanchez, and others - has also drawn mixed reactions from various celebrities like Olivia Munn, and Emily Ratajkowski. Munn called a "gluttonous" endeavor while Ratajkowski compared the mission to "The Hunger Games".

In contrast, Jessica Alba, a friend of Sanchez's, defended the flight, urging critics to direct their energy to criticizing Donald Trump.

Meanwhile, Gayle King explained, "I think it's good that we can really address it … because I was one of those people before I went on this flight and before I became educated. 'Why are we spending so much money on space when there's so much to do on Earth?' I was one of those people."

King believes that understanding Blue Origin's efforts to tackle environmental concerns could change public opinion.
