AceShowbiz - In a thrilling week for music charts, Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco's first collaborative album, "I Said I Love You First", made its debut with impressive metrics. It sold 71,000 copies in its debut week, earning Gomez her fourth No. 1 on Billboard's Top Album Sales chart and her eighth top 10 on Top Album Sales overall.
The album's physical sales included 21,000 vinyl units and 17,000 CDs while digital downloads accounted for 33,000 units. The album also featured a range of editions, including seven vinyl variants, three CD versions, and 10 different digital download iterations. These marketing strategies contributed to the album's strong performance.
Despite these efforts, Gomez and Blanco's album couldn't surpass the streaming might of Playboi Carti's "MUSIC". The rap record earned 131,000 equivalent album units in its second week, fueled predominantly by streaming activity, including the addition of four new tracks in a deluxe edition titled "MUSIC - Sorry 4 Da Wait". This deluxe version played a significant role in maintaining Carti's top position on the Hot 200.
"I Said I Love You First" ended up settling at No. 2 on the U.S. all-genre album ranking, securing 120,000 equivalent album units, making it Gomez's seventh top 10 album. Despite falling short of the top spot, Gomez and Blanco can celebrate the album's solid debut across multiple charts, including No. 1 on the Vinyl Albums chart.
The competition among new releases has been fierce. Japanese Breakfast's "For Melancholy Brunettes (& Sad Women)" and My Morning Jacket's "is" entered the Top Album Sales chart at No. 3 and No. 6, respectively, reflecting diverse consumer preferences and strong engagement with physical album formats.
In summary, while Selena Gomez and benny blanco's album put up a valiant fight, Playboi Carti's streaming strength proved too formidable. This showdown between traditional album sales and modern streaming dominance underscores the evolving dynamics of the music industry.
