As rumors have been swirling for the highly-anticipated movie about pop icon Britney Spears, director Jon M. Chu takes to social media to set the record straight.

AceShowbiz - The internet has been buzzing with casting speculation for Britney Spears biopic. One viral tweet, citing a Life & Style article, suggested that pop stars Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter, and "Stranger Things" star Millie Bobby Brown were vying for the role of Spears.

In response to these rumors, director Jon M. Chu took to social media to provide some clarity. "None of this is true," the filmmaker wrote. "Sounds exciting but have not had one conversation about casting this movie yet. We are way too early in development. Sorry 🤷🏻."

Rumors surrounding Millie Bobby Brown casting may have stemmed from her admiration for Spears. In an interview with Access Hollywood, she said, "I mean, she is an absolute icon. I would love nothing more than to be a part of her story. But that's her story, and I am in full support of her bringing her story to life how she wants to."

During a sit-down with "The Drew Barrymore Show, Brown explained how she could easily relate to Spears, "Just growing up in the public eye watching her videos, watching interviews of how when she was younger..."

"I see the scramble for words [in her interviews] and I don't know her, but when I look at pictures of her, I feel like I could tell her story in the right way and hers only."

Another name that has come up in fan discussions is Olivia Holt. The actress expressed her enthusiasm for potentially playing Spears, telling Variety, "I would be so honored to play Britney... Just the idea that I am on people's minds to play something as iconic as this, would be a dream."

She also shared her favorite Britney tracks, including "I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman" and songs from the "Circus" era.

Jon M. Chu acknowledged the fan interest and is open to suggestions. "I've seen all the fan casting. I've seen all that stuff, and I always take those into consideration. Maybe there's a good idea out there, but we'll have to see what the approach of the movie is before we know who's right for it," he stated.

An essential element is Spears' involvement in the project's development. "She's going to be very involved," Jon confirmed. While the film's production is in its very early stages, he reassured fans, "I haven't really started anything fully yet, but she will be very involved in this. I have ideas and things, an approach, but it's very early."

As the excitement continues to build, one thing is certain: Britney Spears' fans can look forward to a project that not only aims to tell her story but also incorporates her vision and voice.
