AceShowbiz - Just a little over a week after the devastating loss of her husband Carl Dean, country music icon Dolly Parton made her first public appearance. On March 14, the "I Will Always Love You" singer stepped onto the stage at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, to mark the theme park's 40th season celebration.
Wearing a sparkling, magenta dress, the 79-year-old superstar addressed her audience with grace and gratitude. Amidst her ongoing mourning, Dolly began the ceremony by thanking her supporters for the outpouring of love they extended during this difficult time.
"Thank you for all the messages, cards, and flowers that you've sent to pay your respects for the loss of my beloved husband Carl," she expressed, adding, "He is in God's arms now and I am okay with that. I will always love you."
Dolly and Carl Dean met in 1964 outside a laundromat and married two years later. Despite their nearly 60 years together, Carl remained mostly out of the public eye, running an asphalt road-paving business in Nashville. Parton shared that, "Words can't do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years."
In a heart-wrenching yet uplifting statement to her fans, Dolly juxtaposed her personal sorrow with her dedication to her admirers. "Of course I will always love him, and I'll miss him, but I wanted you to know that I will always love you," she told the audience, referencing her classic 1974 hit "I Will Always Love You."
During the event, Dolly also showcased updates and new developments coming to Dollywood and performed "Celebrate the Dreamer In You," which further highlighted her everlasting spirit and connection to her fans.
On Instagram, Dolly continued to honor Carl, who passed away at the age of 82 on March 3. She released a song "If You Hadn't Been There," dedicated to her late husband. Accompanied by a touching throwback photo of the couple, the song echoes their profound love story.
"Carl and I fell in love when I was 18 and he was 21. Like all great love stories, they never end. They live in memory and song, and I dedicate this to him," Dolly wrote.
Dolly's grace through grief has resonated deeply with her fans, young and old alike, reminding everyone of the power of dreams, resilience, and enduring love. As Dolly herself said best, "It doesn't matter what your dream is - even if it's opening a theme park with your name on it - follow those dreams and never give up!"
